The Green Valley Brittany

Association pour la protection des animaux

Who we are

The Green Valley Brittany animal rescue organisation is a nonprofit, French-registered charity based in Callac, Brittany, North-West France.

We help with rehoming animals, we bring animals to safety and we educate the public through their stories – be it an animal that’s been neglected, is unwanted, slaughter-bound, abused, abandoned, discarded or orphaned. We will do our very best to help in any circumstances.

We are not a refuge: in order to minimise the stress of rehoming, all our animals are in a homely environment whilst they await their forever home. Most animals that come into our care will receive veterinary treatment – such as sterilisation, identification etc – and be brought back to health as needed. Our rescue organisation is run solely by volunteers and we do not receive any government funding – all funds raised go directly to helping animals in need: vet bills, animal feed, support for foster families, long-term foster care, equine dentists and hoof trimming, to list just a few of our expenses.

Our philosophy

Animals don’t have a voice of their own: we see it as our duty to ensure that the placements work for the animals and the people. We want every animal in our care to find their forever home, so we try the best to match between animals for adoption and their prospective homes. Our commitment is lifelong: we will always be there for the animals who have passed through our care, supporting them and those who care for them.

Without our wonderful team of volunteers, adopters, foster families and supporters, we wouldn’t be able to do what we are doing. We are incredibly grateful for each and every person that helps whatever they do for us – whether it be fundraising, helping to run our charity shop, fostering, adopting, donating, or simply sharing our posts: without you, we wouldn’t be able to do what we are doing. Animal rescue is a team effort, and everyone is playing a very important role. We really value our community of supporters and we take no contribution for granted.

Get involved

Every year, as we deal with more and more animals in need, our vet bills rise. Most of our outgoings are vet bills – but there are other costs too, and we need to raise funds throughout the year to cover them. Donations are vital to the rescue work that we do, and as we are not government funded, we rely on the generosity of our supporters and the work of volunteers. Donations save lives. Please consider making a one-time or recurring donation. Even small donations collectively can make a big difference.

Here are some of the ways you can help:

  • make a donation – whether a one-time donation or recurring monthly donation, it helps a lot

  • become a sponsor for one of our animals in long-term foster care

  • donate unwanted items to our charity shop in Callac

  • purchase items from our charity shop in Callac

  • become a volunteer

  • organise a fundraising campaign in our name

If you have any other ideas to help us raise funds and/or you would like to be actively involved, then please feel free to get in touch – we would very much appreciate it!
