Adopting from The Green Valley Brittany
Anyone can rehome a rescued animal from us – what’s important is matching you, and your family, with the right animal, which will be based on their needs, and yours. Good matches ensure that that you and they can have a fantastic life together.
Before offering to adopt an animal please consider the following:
-
Will the animal be a good fit for your household?
-
Do you have enough time to devote to the daily needs of the animal?
-
Is anyone in your household allergic?
-
Can you afford a new animal?

Some of our dogs, for example, may still need help with toilet training and learning to be left alone, so need to be matched with someone who has the time for this. Others may not be used to living with children – therefore we may choose not to rehome them to a young family.

In some cases, the cats in our care are still getting used to human company and may need someone who will to be patient with them. Others may need to be kept indoors – this may mean that they’d be ideal for a family with no outside space.
When adopting a larger animal e.g. horse or donkey, there are other factors to consider:
-
Is there enough land, grass, shelter, and water available?
-
Will the animal have a suitable companion?
-
Does the potential adopter have experience of such animals and is aware of the need for vaccinations, hoof and dental care, worming, etc?
Some animals will have specific needs or long-term medication, which the Green Valley Brittany’s vet can advise on.

Adoption Contract
You will be required to sign an Adoption Contract before the animal is handed over to you (unless there are exceptional circumstances for the animal’s welfare benefit). Please make sure you have read the guidelines and the contract thoroughly beforehand.
For the completion of the adoption contract please provide a copy of your identity card / passport and a copy of utility bill. For animals that haven’t been sterilised by adoption, there will be a sterilisation agreement for which we hold a deposit cheque of €300 for dogs and €150 for cats until the animal has been sterilised. Once the animal has been sterilised, the deposit check will be securely destroyed.

Adoption Fees
All animals offered for adoption will have an adoption fee, which varies with type, age, and health of the animal. The fee covers in part The Green Valley Brittany’s costs – things like transport required in the rescue, veterinary fees including de-worming, de-fleaing, microchipping, sterilisation, food, medication, and grooming.
Larger animals may require hoof trimming and dental work. There may be additional transport costs incurred before the animal is rehomed.
The agreed adoption fee will be included in the Adoption Contract and is due on signing the contract.
The animal will not be handed over until both are completed.
